The ETS has started to release the official GRE scores for students who took the revised GRE after the date of August 1st 2011. The scores are available at ETS’s website here. I took the revised GRE test on the 16th of August and I was able to see my official scores. The image below is a screenshot of my score.

The new score scale provides a finer differentiation for students scoring high on the Quantitative section. In the past administrations, a score of 800 corresponded to a 94 percentile, meaning the score scale did not really differentiate among the highest 6% scorers. The current scale has expanded the differentiation on the high end of the Quantitative scores. In my opinion, the scaled scores are meaningless, the only important number is your percentile score, which technically should remain the same whether you take the old or the revised GRE.

On the Verbal section, my score is a bit higher than in the past, this could be due to the absence of Analogies in the revised GRE test, which was one of my weakness. Also, there is less emphasis on vocabulary in the revised GRE, the vocabulary that is tested is presented in a context, making it a bit easier than in the past. (Note: I do not teach the Verbal Reasoning section and nor do I prepare for that section, please keep that in mind as you read my commentary.)

Finally, the table below shows the scaled scores and the equivalent percentiles for the revised GRE.
